Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

Hart Side                                                    2481'

Hart Side

From Dockray. 16/3/10

This scene took a bit of finding. Its actually on the road out of Dockray up towards Dowthwaitehead. Aw's drawing has a bit of artistic license which also threw me a bit when searching for the exact location.

Hart Side summit

The Summit. 30/6/09

The cairn sits on a fairly flat piece of land amongst grass and a few rocks.

Hart Side summit ditch

The summit ditch. 30/6/09

At the top end of the ditch there is now a small wall forming a crude shelter.

Hart Side mine

The cave 30/6/09

A few metal bars have been placed at the entrance of the cave possibly to prevent sheep from entering. On the warm June evening when I was there the cave was emmitting a strong cold draught of air, rather refreshing.

Hart Side Ullswater

Ullswater from Brown Hills. 30/6/09

There was nice evening light on the far eastern fells as I obtained this reference. Only the stump of that dead pine tree remains which is still remarkable after all this time.

Fell complete.
