To obtain these references has required 5 days of walking so far: 18/9/07, 6/3/09, 25/9/09, 11/12/09, 20/4/11 (click on the dates to see the photos) Helvellyn 3118'
From St Sunday Crag. 18/9/07 A fine viewpoint for Helvellyn with Striding Edge in profile on the right.
Striding Edge. 11/12/09 Looking down on the length of this popular ridge from near the summit plateau.
Swirral Edge. 19/4/11 This ridge is another good route up to the summit of Helvellyn.
From Red Tarn. 19/4/11 At the water's edge the rocks in the foreground match AW's drawing almost exactly.
Helvellyn Gill. 19/8/10 To obtain this view meant a steep descent of a grassy slope, I'm assuming that AW came this way just to take a look.
Whelpside Gill. 10/8/10 The falls were in full flow on my visit.
The summit from Striding Edge. 6/3/09 An early start meant that I was able to catch the winter sun on the eastern snowy face of the mountain.
Looking North East. 25/9/09 Browncove Crags on the left from near Helvellyn Lower Man summit.
Summit of Lower Man. 11/12/09 Snow hangs on the east side of the fell with Swirral Edge dropping down to the left.
Browncove Crags. 25/9/09 Rain passes over the crags.
The Summit. 11/12/09 For such a popular fell the summit cairn is rather meagre but it is a fine viewpoint down to Ullswater and beyond.
Gough Memorial. 25/9/09 The stone memorial which is passed en-route to the summit from the top of Striding Edge.
Aircraft memorial. 11/12/09 No longer surrounded by a pile of stones this inscribed stone slab sits to one side of the main path.
Dixon Memorial. 11/12/09 With St Sunday Crag as a backdrop this memorial is found along the Striding Edge route.
Whelpside Spring. 25/9/09 Considering its only a few hundred metres from the popular summit this source of clear water is hardly visited. Fell Complete.
