Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 7 (Western) > Hen Comb The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 8/11/08, 12/11/08 (click on the dates to see the photos) Hen Comb 1661'
Hen Comb from Mosedale. 8/11/08 The flanks of Hen Comb do not offer up the most inspiring scene, only the meandering Mosedale Beck and the colour of the hillside make this sketch reasonably acceptable.
Little Dodd 12/11/08 This rocky outcrop probably has been included as it is the only point of interest on the north ridge of the fell. On most other hills it would be of no merit.
The Summit 12/11/08 It would have been unfair of me not it include my constant companions in the place of "Barmaid" in AW's drawing. The cairn has changed from the illustration in Hen Comb 4 mainly due to Wainwright "playing tricks". Needless to say, this is now one of my favourite paintings for this project. more sketches to follow shortly.
