Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 17/2/08, 10/2/10, 22/3/11 (click on the dates to see the photos)

High Crag                                                     2443'

High Crag

From Haystacks. 10/2/10

This small pool makes a good foreground focal point for this sketch. It is located close to the main path from Scarth Gap to Haystacks summit, sometimes it is just a peaty dry depression but on this day it was frozen.

High Crag ridge

From High Stile. 22/3/11

This view is obtained from high up on the north east ridge of High Stile and just at a point where Green Gable and Windy Gap can just be seen in the distance.

High crag Gamlin End

Gamlin End. 10/2/10

The path on Gamlim end has had some repair work but it is still a steep route.

High Crag 7

The summit. 17/2/08

Only a single piece of old fencework forms part of the cairn now. Seen here on a hazy winters day with the Helvellyn range away in the distance.

Fell Complete.
