Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking so far: 25/11/08 21/9/10 (click on the dates to see the photos)

High Hartsop Dodd                                                     1702'

High Hartsop Dodd

From Hartsop Beck. 21/9/10

AW used a bit or artistic license in this drawing by making the fell a touch more dramatic than it actually is. He also flattened the foreground which allowed him to fit in the required wording in on the page. Trees now encroach in from the right.

High Hartsop Dodd Dove crag

Dove Crag and Hogget Gill. 25/11/08

Last of the winter afternoon sun catches the top of Dove Crag and The Stangs. I tried as near as possible to obtain the same seasonal view as in AW's drawing.

Angletarn Pikes and Place Fell form the skyline above Brotherswater.
