Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

High Pike                                                     2155'

High Pike 1a

From High Sweden Bridge. 16/3/10

This main fell illustration by AW is unique in that it is the only one of the 214 of a half page width. My first visit for the reference in summer meant that the fell was fairly obscured by foliage so I returned in late winter to get a better view.

High Pike 4a

The summit. 18/9/07

The neat cairn in his drawing has now become a jumled pile of stones.

High Pike 4b

The wall. 18/9/07

Sadly the whole wall is now falling into disrepair and as can be seen from this sketch, the section which AW admired is also tumbling. Even though the building skills are still available the lack of  money, time and actual need for such a boundary mean that walls such as these are soon to become lines of rubble.

High Pike 5

From Scandale. 16/3/10

The scree and crags of the fells eastern face as seen from the valley bottom. A difficult scene to paint as the light was full on the slopes.

Fell Complete.
