Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

High Street                                                    2718'

High Street 1

High Street from Branstree. 2/3/10

The view across a partially frozen Haweswater looking up the Long Stile ridge to the summit of High Street.

High Street 2

Rough Crag from Long Stile. 2/3/10

Looking down on a snow covered ridge from close to the summit

High Street 9a

The Long Stile Ridge. 2/3/10

The addition of snow on the ridge adds to the drama of this view down to Haweswater.

High Street 9b

Hayeswater from the Roman Road. 2/3/10

An impressive scene over Hayeswater right across to the snow capped eastern fells.

The summit. 24/6/08

Gradually the wall that crosses the summit plateau is deteriorating, the area around the triangulation column is now covered with stones that at one time would have been part of that wall.

High Street 14a

High Street from Mardale Ill Bell. 2/3/10

I was able to re-visit this location in winter which has enabled me to depict the scene in similar conditions as Wainwright drew it. Due to the extreme cold though of this winter, Blea Water is actually frozen over.

High Street 14b

High Street from Blea Water.

I was lucky to capture this view just before the low cloud engulfed the summit of High Street. The water actually was that rich green hue.

 Fell complete
