Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 17/4/09, 7/9/09, 18/3/11(click on the dates to see the photos)

Kirk Fell

From Green Gable. 18/3/11

Wherever possible I have tried to obtain the references in the same seasonal conditions as is AW's drawings. In the foreground of his sketch there was snow on the ground, as you will see from the photographs of this day there was snow about but just not enough to be seen here. Kirk Fell doesn't stand out so well in my sketch as it does in his as I have included the distant fells of the Pillar group.

Seen from the north traverse route, the cloud just lifted to give me this dramatic view of the crags above.
