Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 23/2/10, 5/11/08 28/9/11 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Low Fell                                                     1360'

Low Fell

From Lanthwaite Hill. 23/2/10

The view across the valley and over the rooftop of the Scale Hill Hotel to bracken covered slopes of Low fell.

Low Fell

Watching Crag. 28/9/11

It took two visits to the fell to obtain my references, the second walk was to confirm that I had got this view correct. AW has made it a little more angualr than it is in reality, possibly to fit that space in the corner of the page.

Low Fell summit

The summit. 5/11/08

The far distant hills were shrouded by some cloud but the distinctive shape of Mellbreak forms a neat backdrop to the summit.

Low Fell 5b

Cairn on Darling Fell 5/11/08

It was a pretty poor day when I obtained this reference, low cloud obscured Grasmoor in the distance but the important view of Low Fell was able to be captured.

Low Fell 5c

Cairn on the north top. 5/11/08

Sitting on the rise of the ground this pile of stones lies north of the main summit. When viewed from this angle Grasmoor forms the backdrop, today it was shrouded in cloud.

Fell complete.
