Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 2 (Far Eastern) > Place Fell Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 14/10/08, 6/3/09 (click on the dates to see the photos) Place Fell 2154'
Place Fell from Birks. 6/3/09. For a hill to which AW devoted 10 pages in the Pictorial Guide it is odd that it only warrants two sketches. I made a special return visit to Birks in March 2009 just so that I could obtain my reference for this sketch with at least some snow on the top of Place Fell, not quite the same cover as AW shows though.
The Summit 14/10/08 I have taken the liberty here of showing the background with the trig point in this sketch. The cairn in the foreground is now a untidy pile of rocks. Fell Complete
