Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 2/9/08, 20/2/09, 5/7/09 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Rest Dodd

From Gray Crag. 2/9/08

Snow lay in the gullies on my walk for this reference with a large drift right in the foreground here. AW's drawing makes Rest Dodd more pointed than in reality.

Rest Dodd summit

The Summit 2/9/08

The flagpole has long since gone and in my sketch I have included the distant fells behind The Nab which Wainwright omits.

Rest Dodd Satura Crag

Buck Crag and Heck Crag. 5/7/09

From Satura Crag the nearer Buck Crag is much more rounded than in his sketch. He also has omitted Place Fell behind Heck Crag.

Fell complete.
