Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

Rossett Pike                                                     2106'

Rossett Pike 1a

From Mickleden 8/7/09

Late evening light over the rugged outline of Rossett Pike

Rossett Pike from the pass

From the top of Rossett Pass. 3/10/08

The evening light illuminates the top of the fell.

Packwomans grave

Packwoman's Grave. 8/7/09

It took a couple of visits to locate these marker stones for the grave. Even though AW doesn't give too much detail of the place in the Pictorial Guides he does give better clues in other books which I used to identify the location exactly.

Rossett Pike 5

Rossett Pike from the old Pony Route. 8/7/09

The new restored path may not be to everyone's liking but even in AW's drawing a wide eroded path can be seen on the breast of the ridge, not almost fully recovered to its natural state.

Rossett Pike and Mickleden Cairn

The summit. 3/10/08

Amongst the rocky ridge of the top of the fell a small cairn sits on a small platform.

Rossett Pike Mickleden Cairn

The Mickleden cairn. 3/10/08

With a commanding view into the valley this is a fine location to watch the last of the evening sun. The cairn has mostly collapsed.

Rossett Pike 7

Mickleden. 8/7/09

A fine view from the summit of the length of the valley to Lingmoor.

Fell Complete.
