Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has so far required 2 days of walking: 12/6/09, 10/4/11 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Seathwaite Fell                                            1970'

Seathwaite Fell

From Seathwaite. 10/4/11

In the intervening years the drystone wall in the near field has been washed away, possibly in the bad flood of 2008. On the day that I obtained this reference the forground field were still rather bare after winter with the sheep waiting in their regular place for their early morning feed.

Stockley Bridge

Stockley Bridge. 10/4/11

One of the most well used packhorse bridges by walkers in the district.

Seathwaite Fell summit

The summit. 12/6/09

Even though AW drew this cairn at 1970' he realised there was a higher point at 2000'.  However, this platform of rock is located with a fine viewpoint over Borrowdale and in this sketch even the pointed peak of Castle Crag gets a look in.

Fell complete.
