Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

Skiddaw Little Man Whit beck

Waterfalls Whit Beck. 22/5/09

This exact view can only be obtained by steep approach from the normal path and standing on bank of grass and moss high above the gorge, not recommended.

Skiddaw Little Man boulders

The two boulders. 22/5/09

On the steep southern slopes of the fell this group of rocks stand alone amongst the heather.

Skiddaw Little Man Sale How

Sale How. 19/5/09

Remarkably there is still a tall stake at this point, whether it is the same one as in AW's drawing I am not sure but is certainly of some age. Behind is the East Peak of Lonscale Fell.

Skiddaw little man summit

The summit. 19/5/09

The jumble of slate makes a rather untidy cairn with the remains of the old fence sticking out of the pile.

Skiddaw Lesser man

Lesser Man. 19/5/09

Not quite as neat a cairn as in AW's drawing. Directly behind is the north slopes of Blencathra.
