Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has so far required 3 days of walking: 7/10/084/1/09 20/4/10 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Walla Crag                                                     1234'

Walla Crag

From Falcon Crag. 20/4/10

I was lucky enough to reach this point just as some early morning light was touching the fell. Almost unchanged since AW's day.

Walla Crag from Rakefoot

From near Rakefoot. 20/04/10

The forestry in the mid-distance is about the only change in this scene.

Walla crag cat Gill

Waterfalls in Cat Gill. 20/4/10

The trees now nearly obscure the view of the falls and possibly in summer they will not be seen at all.

Walla crag summit

The Summit. 20/4/10

These days the cairn isn't situated on this platform of rock but a few paces behind this point. it is a fine view over to the North western fells from here though.

Bleaberry Fell 4/1/09

The rounded top of Bleaberry Fell of which Walla Crag is really a foothill.

Fell Complete.
