13th May 2008

The second route on the third day of a week in the North Western Fells of the Lake District. We based ourselves in Lorton in the campsite of The Wheatsheaf Inn, a convenient location to reach all 29 of these hills.

To avoid another long hot day on the fells I spilt our planned route of the Grasmoor round into two. This late afternoon evening route would include Hopegill Head and Whiteside. We began the walk from Lanthwaite Green at about 3pm and set off up the route shown by AW up Gasgale Gill, avoiding the popular lower path.

Whiteside and Whin Ben from Lanthwaite Green. (No its not my house!)
