17th February 2008- High Stile Ridge, Buttermere.

The good weather forecast gave hopes for a promising days walking so we set off early. A very cold and frosty night was followed  by a clear sky. I was hoping for some good views of the North Western fells from the ridge to the west of Buttermere.

Warm light on St James' at Buttermere. You can see the boarded up "Wainwright" window which is in need of repair.

A frosty Scale bridge.

Grasmoor and Rannerdale Knotts over a calm Crummock Water.

Scale Force.

On Lingcomb Edge looking towards Mellbreak. The distinctive line in the sky is actually haze with clear sky above.

We were now above the haze as you can see from this view of Grasmoor.

Esther and Zoe on Red Pike. Fleetwith Pike in the distance.

Red Pike and Mellbreak from High Stile.

Zooming in on the Scafells from High Stile.

A walker on High Crag and a hazy Harrison Stickle.

Looking back to Grey Crags from the ridge to High Crag.

Haystacks from Gamlin End.

High Crag from the route up Haystacks.

Great Gable in evening light over a frozen Innominate Tarn.

Grey Knotts before we headed down the pass.

A silhouetted Haystacks. Esther is the lone figure.

The last glimmer of light reflects in Buttermere as we return to the start.
