17th May 2008 Grasmoor and Rannerdale Knotts

The route on the seventh day of a period in the North Western Fells of the Lake District. We based ourselves in Lorton in the campsite of The Wheatsheaf Inn, a convenient location to reach all 29 of these hills.

This route over Grasmoor and round to Rannerdale Knotts was the second half of a walk which we split earlier in the week due to the hot weather. It now meant that our ascent via Lad Hows was one of the very few routes which followed A.W.'s route description. the forecast was not great for the afternoon so we set off reasonably early, walking at 8a.m.

The lower slopes of Lad Hows giving a good view of Haystacks and the distant fells.

Esther striding out. Crummock Water and Loweswater behind.

Gaining height, we are now above Whiteless Pike which we would be on later. Waterproofs on for the first time this week.

Grasmoor summit cairn. The incoming cloud put paid to me getting the references that I needed so perhaps third time lucky.

From Grasmoor we headed to Wandope, this is the view into Addacomb Hole.

Wandope summit, yet again not the view I need so another visit required.

We headed to Whiteless Pike where we met the only other Society member who we recognised during the week. He was heading to Wandope and can just be seen on Thirdgill Head Man.

Whiteless Pike with our ascent route up Lad Hows to Grasmoor behind.

From near Whiteless Breast, the scene back to Whiteless Pike and Third Gill Head Man.

Down below we spotted what looked like a post office queue on a Thursday heading to Rannerdale Knotts, exactly where we were heading.

Fortunately the crowd decided the route to the top was a bit much so we did have the ridge to ourselves.
