8th November 2008 . A circuit of Mellbreak.

The weather over in the Western Fells during this week was not ideal for getting views from the higher tops which I of course need for my work. Consequently I spent a fair amount of time gathering the references from lower on the fells. Today was a fine example, due to the forecast I planned a walk which would encompass Mellbreak and enable me to "tick-off" some of the features that I needed. Apologies for the quality of the photographs but it was actually quite dark for most of the afternoon.

Mellbreak from the bridge at Kirkhead. Our route was to be clock-wise around the hill.

Grasmoor with a fleeting patch of sun.

Heavy rain in the distance to the right of Rannerdale Knotts.

Further on the rain had passed, Warnscale Beck in full flow.

The torrential rains of a few weeks ago have left their mark, Scale Beck has changed course slightly.

....the footbridge further up was washed out....

..and a landslip up from Scales Force had taken the path with it.

Heading towards Mosedale.

Passing the Mosedale Holly Tree.

Fellbarrow and Low Fell ahead as we return towards Kirkstile.
